Overview

SC Sales Motivator uses a series of banners to display cart total goals to your customers. You can use the app's banners to show discount codes to your customers once they reach a certain cart total.

Alert

This article uses Shopify's discount codes to offer a discount on your customers' orders.

Setup

Step 1: Create a Discount Code

  1. From Shopify's admin, select Discounts.

Select the Discounts option on the left-hand side of your Shopify admin

  2. Select Create discount code.

In the top-right, select Create Discount Code

  3. Enter a Discount code or select Generate code.

Note: The discount code can be whatever you want to enter in this area; just be sure to record this code for later.

On the right-hand side, select Generate Code, or in the text box below, enter in your discount code name

  4. Select the Discount type.

Note: We recommend against selecting "Buy X Get Y" as the discount type. This type of discount code doesn't work well for Motivator's monetary-based goals.

On the left side, select a discount type from the dropdown menu

  5. Enter a Discount value.

Immediatley to the right of that, enter in your discount value

  6. Under "Applies to", select Entire order.

Under the Applies To section, select the first checkbox: Entire Order

  7. Under "Minimum requirement", select Minimum purchase amount.

Note: This is to ensure that only customers who have reached the desired cart total will be able to use this code.

Under the Minimum Requirement section, select the second (middle) checkbox: Minimum Purchase Amount

  8. Enter a minimum purchase amount.

Note: This number should match the cart total you want to specify in Step 8 of the next section.

Directly below, use the text box to enter

  9. Under "Customer eligibility", select Everyone.

Under the Customer Eligibility section, select the first option: Everyone

  10. Under "Usage limits", select Limit to one use per customer.

Select Limit Use To One Per Customer

  11. Under "Active dates", select a Start date and End date(optional).

Under the Active Dates section, click the left-side tab to choose a start date, and the right-hand tab to choose a start time. Select the checkbox underneath Start Date to set an end time, and repeat

  12. Select Save discount.

In the bottom-right corner, select Save Discount

Step 2: Set up the Motivator Goal

  1. From within the Motivator admin, select Goals.

From Motivator's top navigation bar, select Account Plans, select Goals

  2. Select Create a new goal.

On the left-hand side under Actions, select Create a New Goal

  3. Under "Step 1 - The Goal Amount", enter the Cart Total(dollar amount) required to reach the goal.

Note: This cart total should match the "minimum purchase amount" you specified in Step 8.

Only cart total goals can be created within Motivator at this time.

Within the textbox under Step 1 The Goal Amount, enter in a dollar amount for your cart total

  4. Under "Step 2 - Make the Pitch!", enter the Initial Message (your sales pitch).

Note: The message will display approximately once every 24 hours. If a customer visits during the day and comes back later the same day, it is assumed the shopper saw the pitch message and does not need to be reminded of it. The message will display to the same visitor if they view the site from a different browser or if their browser cookies have been cleared.

Within the textbox under Step 2 Make the Pitch, enter a message telling customers about your goal

  5. Under "Step 3 - Follow Up!", enter the text you wish to appear Before the Balance and After the Balance.

Under Step 3 Follow Up, there are two textboxes; the left side has a message for before the monetary balance (example: you're only), and the right side has a message for after the monetary balance (example: away from getting free shipping). Enter the text you'd like to appear to customers as they shop

  6. Under "Step 4 - Congrats they did it!", enter a Confirmation message and your discount code.

Note: This is where you'll display the discount code you created in the previous section. The confirmation banner only displays to customers once they have reached the appropriate cart total.

Under Step 4 Congrats they did it, use the textbox underneath to enter a message informing the customer they've reached your goal

  7. Select and complete the optional features:

Note: These features are only available with the premium version of Motivator.

Picture shows the three additional options that come with Motivator Premium: geolocation for country-specific goals, scheduling for timed banners, and free product rewards

    • Geolocating: Goals can be targeted to customers visiting the site from different countries. One example is to offer free shipping to Canadian customers when they spend $100, and free shipping to US customers when they spend $150. Visitors from Canada would only see the goal to spend $100; US customers would only see their offer to spend $150.

Selecting the Enable Geolocation checkbox will open two tabs underneath, where you can filter by country names, or select from a long list; the second tab shows which countries you have selected

    • Scheduling:This extends the functionality to set the date and time for the motivator offer to display. This feature uses the store's time zone, defined in the Shopify admin settings.

Selecting the Enable Scheduling checkbox will open four tabs underneath; the 'from' date, time; and the 'to' date, and time where you can begin and end your banner. Underneath that is seven horizontal checkboxes from Sunday to Saturday which you can check off

    • Free Product Offer: When the spending goal is reached, a free product will be automatically added to the cart. When the offer is turned on, a copy of the product selected will be automatically created, and priced at 0.00, thus making it free. The product will be removed from the store when the offer is turned off.

Selecting the Enable Free Product checkbox will display a button underneath that says Select Products, where you can choose the free product you want to offer

Note: If a newly created product is not appearing in the product selector, select Update Now at the top right corner of the product selector.

      Select Update Now

  8. Select Save.

Limitations

  • If multiple goals are created and set as active, only one goal can be initiated in the cart page at one time.

    Example

Let's say you have three goals created and activated in SC Sales Motivator. Goal 1 has a cart goal value of $10.00, Goal 2 has a cart goal of $50.00 and Goal 3 has a cart total of $100.00. Each goal is offering a different size gift bag ranging from Small for Goal 1, Medium for Goal 2 and Large for Goal 3.

If a product that is worth $60.00 is added into the cart, the Medium gift bag for Goal 2 will be added into the cart and the Small gift bag will not be added.

In order to allow all products from each goal to be added into the cart, the customer will need to hit each cart goal individually.

  • Only one product or variant can be selected in a motivator goal. This means that if you have a product with multiple variants, such as a t-shirt product that contains different sizes, only one size can be selected in the product selector as the free product.
