Setting Up Store Groups

Modified on Fri, 16 Jan at 8:24 AM

Store groups are a great visual way to categorize your store locations on the map with uniquely colored pins.

To illustrate, imagine you have Seasonal Trade Fair Locations alongside your permanent shops. We’ll use this example to show you how to group different types of store locations.

Adding Store Groups

1. From the Shopify admin, select Apps.

2. Select Store Locator.

3. Select Settings.

4. Select Groups.

5. Click on Add New Group button.

6. Enter a Group Name.

7. Select a Stores Pin.

8. Save changes.

9. Repeat steps 5-8 to create all desired store groups.

Editing & Deleting Store Groups

Each group is managed independently. If you want to edit or delete it, please use the buttons below and then follow the intuitive steps to change the filter name or delete it, before saving changes.

Assigning Store Groups

Each group is assigned on individual store location pages, during creation or editing.

Getting to store location pages is presented in the Add and Edit Store Location article. Once there:

1. Scroll down and find the Additional Details section.

2. Click on the Store Group field.

3. Select the store group you want to assign (in this case, Trade Fair) to a location in the drop-down.

4. Save changes.

Enhance Store Groups Experience

If you want the users to see the locations on the map sidebar in the order of the groups below, and then by distance, click on the Sort result addresses based on sequence checkbox. If the option is not selected, the user will only get the results based on distance.

Now let’s say you want to create a few locations that are not permanent because they will be a part of a trade fair. In that case you would:

1. Add a group as prescribed in the Adding Store Groups section.

2. Click on the Hide Stores After checkbox.

3. Enter the amount of Days.

4. Save changes.

Important Note: Once store groups are unassigned from specific store locations, they will not be hidden after the expiration date.

Storefront Example

Let’s stick to our example with trade fair locations.

Let’s assume you:

  1. Added the Trade Show store group following steps in the Adding Store Groups section.

  2. Then, assigned the new search filter as described in the Assigning Store Groups section.

Then your customers will be able to:

  1. Observe those store locations with a different map pin.

Current Limitations

You cannot…

  • … have an off the shelf legend explaining what differently colored map pins mean. You will need to customize the App Block and/or your Proxy Page and add the instructions in footers and/or headers.

  • … refine search results based on store groups, as you can with search filters.

  • … hide store groups from the list, you can only delete them.

  • … assign multiple store locations to specific store groups in bulk on the Groups page.
