Quick Navigation
SC Store Locator now offers bulk import functionality for your stores, supporting multiple file formats like CSV, XLSX, XLS and ODS.
Step 1: File Preparation
The instructions below are for CSV files. Please note that the same steps go for all import file formats mentioned above.
To prepare your spreadsheet for the import you can either use the template import-template.csv or you can create your own. Keep in mind the following:
- The field names go in the top row and the values go in the rows underneath.
- When you upload the file you'll map the fields to proper columns so don't worry about spelling.
- If you are importing search filters or custom fields they'll need to exist in SC Store Locator prior to the import.
- For example, if you are using the import-template above, before you do the import you would need to create two filters: 24-Hour Service and Wi-Fi and you'd also need to create one Extra Field called Special Instructions. If those don't exist the importer won't have anywhere to put values.
- For the Custom Fields you can enter any text that applies.
- For Search Filters enter a "Y" (for yes) if it applies to that location, otherwise leave the cell blank for no. See example.
Recommended Action
- Longitude and Latitude are not required fields. Google Map API must be setup prior to importing for addresses to be geolocated automatically during bulk Import.
- With this in mind, please make sure City, Province/State and Country are written in full. Abbreviations will not be accepted.
- Please make sure you populate all 6 mandatory fields: Store Name, Address, City, Province/State, Country, Postal/ZIP Code.
Once you have created your spreadsheet you'll need to save it as a UTF8 .csv file. Don't worry, this sounds confusing but it's really easy! Here are the steps:
1. Save your spreadsheet as a CSV.
2. Then close the file.
3. Find that file in its folder and Right Click on it and select "Open With" and then select Notepad from the list of applications.
4. After opening the file in Notepad don't do anything to it, just go to the File > Save As option. Near the save button there should be a dropdown that box labelled "Encoding". In that box make sure you select UTF-8.
5. Make sure there is a .csv extension after the file name.
6. Click Save and then click save, and now your file is all ready for import!
Step 2: Import
1. From the Shopify admin, select Apps.
2. Select Store Locator.
3. Select Bulk Import and Export.
4. Select Bulk Import.
5. Select Choose File.
6. Select a file on your device (follow the prompts weather you are using PC or Mac).
7. Select Upload.

8. Match Columns by relating columns names from the imported file and standardized fields used within SC Store Locator.

9. Select Start Importing.

10. Hold tight while we import and geo-locate your stores. Once complete you will receive a confirmation email to your inbox. If the email is not received please check your spam/junk folder.

Important Note
If you didn't relate all mandatory fields to columns in your imported file, bulk upload will be prevented.

Additionally, If you want to remove all existing locations, during importing the new ones, opt in for Replace Stores option. Be aware that this will not save the existing locations export.
Sometimes there are errors when Google tries to find the locations, you will perhaps see the pins on your map in the middle of the ocean. Don't be worried, this can be caused because the address is not formatted exactly how Google is looking for it. The email notification will tell you which locations did not plot properly and you'll need to drag the pins for those locations to the proper spots on the locations editing page.
