Can I use negative numbers or percentages in SC Product Options?

Negative Numbers / Discounts: SC Product Options cannot be used to decrease or discount a product's base price.

Percentages: Direct percentage-based pricing calculation is not supported due to Shopify platform limits.

1. Using Negative Numbers (Text Display Only)

The Limitation

Non-alphanumeric characters (like the standard - minus sign) are ignored by default during option creation. Adding a minus sign to an option label will not reduce the total price in Shopify.

Display Workaround

If you simply want to show a negative number in the label text for display purposes:

• Use the HTML entity code − or copy the unicode minus symbol (−) directly into the option value (e.g., enter −4.00).
  ⚠️ Important: This is a label text workaround only. It will not reduce the item price at checkout.
  
  

2. Percentage-Based Pricing

The Limitation

When priced options are created, Shopify requires fixed currency values (e.g., $5.00) to create the background add-on product. Shopify does not natively support dynamic percentage additions (e.g., +10%) on cart options.

Recommended Workaround

1. Calculate the fixed dollar value of the percentage based on your base product price.

2. Enter that calculated fixed amount as a standard Priced Option in SC Product Options.
